How do I ...?

How do I set up my Chromebook?

  1. Connect to a Wi-Fi internet connection.
  2. Sign in with your Gmail Google account or create one.
  3. Your home screen shows basic icons in the bottom middle and a Launch icon on the left bottom side of the screen.

How do I add Microsoft Word?

  1. Click on the Play Store icon located at the bottom center of the screen. You are given three choices: Games, Apps, Books. Select Apps.
  2. Scan through the many apps that are available until you find Microsoft Word. Or you can search for it in the Search bar.
  3. Select Microsoft Word. It will ask you to enter or create your Microsoft account.
  4. Microsoft Word will download onto your Chromebook. It only takes about 77.7 MB of space. Once downloaded, it will show up on your Chromebook.
  5. Click on the round Launcher icon located at the bottom left of the screen.
  6. Click on the upside-down V in the middle of the screen. You will see all of the apps on your Chromebook, including Microsoft Word. Right-click on the icon to pin it to the shelf.
  7. Now you can open all your Word file attachments from your email in Word. You can also create Word documents to send by email, save online on your Chromebook, or store on a USB drive.

How do I save my work on a USB drive?

  1. Plug your USB drive into your Chromebook. You can find it on your Chromebook by clicking on Launcher and then selecting File. The USB drive will be located at the bottom of the file list.
  2. You can then drag your files from your Chromebook to the USB drive or from the USB drive to your Chromebook, just as you would on a laptop.
  3. Before you remove the USB drive, click on the small arrow located next to the USB drive name to safely remove the drive.

How do I work offline?

  1. While connected to Wi-Fi, save your files to Google Drive. See this YouTube tutorial for guidance.
  2. Go to Google Chrome Settings:
    • Click on the Chrome icon.
    • Click on the 9-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
    • Select Google Drive.
    • Click on the Settings icon.
  3. Select the box to enable offline mode.
  4. Select the files you want to use offline. (Note the “Offline” pin at the bottom of the Google Drive screen.) You can save them on your Chromebook or USB drive.
  5. Go to the Chromebook home page and click on the Launcher icon in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  6. Open Files, then select Google Drive and enable Offline mode. You can now download files onto your Chromebook or USB drive to use offline. Files can be accessed using Google Docs or Microsoft Word, if previously downloaded.
There are a couple of ways to reset your Chromebook. Here are two options
1.  Press and hold the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R keys on the keyboard. Choose Restart. In the next box, select Powerwash and click Continue. The Chromebook will now start the Factory Reset (Powerwash) process.
